Christmas Crab

December 22, 2010

Area 10 - Seattle/Bremerton, Washington 12-22-10 09:00 AM ( about 4 hours )

Took my daughter (home from Oklahoma for the holidays) out crabbing & fishing today in area 10. Dropped the pots in Apple Tree Cove at Kingston after a sporty run out from Everett. Forecast said 10-15 with 1-2 foot wind waves or less. Yeah Right! It was nice until we got to Mukilteo then hit 3-4 footers all the way to Kingston where we were able to tuck in out of the wind to drop the crab hardware. Headed over to Jefferson head and fished with about 3 other boats. We chugged into the wind for about an hour and hooked a fish right away which spit the hook, at my daughter, near the surface. Small fish for sure. Dropped the lines again and got a decent bite which she played perfectly. A small little clipped blackmouth that measured 21-7/8" turned it loose. Man I love the smell of blackmouth! Turned the boat around to troll with the wind and picked up a couple more small shakers. All released unharmed. Headed back to retrieve the pots and scored 3 nice sized Dungees and 2 large Red Rocks which are going to taste great on Christmas Eve. Headed back to port in the heavy chop arrived at the ramp at 3PM and raced to Woodinville to get her to her hair appointment by 3:45. Whew, just made it! It was a nice day out there (never got rained on) Just the wind made it a bit less tolerable but I wouldn't have missed it. I love it when the kids ask to go fishing! Merry Christmas Everyone!
